Itachi was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, to a loving mother and dedicated father. A few brief years later, his brother Sasuke came into the world, destined to live in his shadow. The family had never gone wanting. Quite the opposite, in fact, living very well by almost anyone's standards, especially for those in law enforcement.

Even from a young age, Itachi excelled far beyond what anyone could expect of him, often passing by others considerably older than he. He grew weary of his classes, graduating from high school at 12, then from college at 15. He followed his father's footsteps in upholding the law, taking a position as an investigator. Despite utmost success and prowess in the field, he and his father grew further apart when Itachi was promoted and assigned a classified international case dealing with an anarchist group known simply as the UFL. Using leaked information he helped the national investigative bureau track down three terrorist hideouts, arresting a total of twenty-eight individuals.

Some time during his nineteenth year, his family moved to Sacramento, California, USA. His father had received a hefty promotion and the change of scenery he had been aspiring for, and had managed to get Itachi transferred with him. His father took up a cushy desk job pushing papers as Itachi once again turned to the investigative branch. Shortly after arrival, Itachi was commissioned in secrecy by the FBI Counter-Terrorism branch with a lead on an American-based UFL sect. The FBI had recovered documents naming his parents as liaisons from the Pacific Rim UFL.

He spent a year with this assignment, slowly gathering more clues from within the household and without, feeling the pressure and suspicion rising from his own father as they grew ever more distant. Despite tremendous efforts, he grew to neglect his younger brother all the more as this was no longer a matter of work, but ending a deadly threat to innocents.

It was a day like any other, the day he finally approached his parents, pistol drawn. Sasuke had gone to school, his mother cooking a late breakfast, his father reading the newspaper, dressed for work. Itachi told them to turn themselves in, promising what leniency he could in exchange for others' names and whereabouts. Extensive training had not failed him that day. Seeing his father reach for his sidearm, Itachi calmly put a bullet between the man's eyes before gunning down the woman coming at him with a pan and butcher's knife. They were no longer his parents. They were criminals presenting a deadly threat to an agent.

Following the incident, detailed plans for an attempt on the American president's life were recovered from the household. Itachi fled the state, both in horror of his brother knowing what he had done and the potential for UFL retaliation upon Sasuke and himself. For six years he ran, burying himself in high risk undercover operations, using the pressure and demand for perfection to occupy his mind, distracting him from the ghosts of years past still haunting him. The mental and physical stress grew until he became "unfit for field operation" as the Bureau's psychiatrists labeled him. Itachi returned to the last place he could call home, living off of a generous early retirement pension.
